Son of John William Onions and Frances Clara Onions nee Ward of Russell Vale, Bellambi, NSW, Brother of Reuben James Onions who returned to Australia on 2  March 1919 having served with the 13th Battalion 

Commenced return to Australia on 22 August 1919 aboard HT Anchises disembarking on 13 October 1919.

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

During 1920c Bert married  Margaret Elliott, in Wollongong, NSW.
