Ron was made a life membership of the RSL, he was proposed by the Barmera sub branch. He joined the RSL In NSW at the Kagarah sub branch he then moved to South Australia and transfered to Goolwa then Salisbury before moving to Barmera. He served as President/ Secretary 1968-69, secretary 1975 to 2003 and president again in 2004. Ron was a member of the Legacy and on the committee. He organised Special Remeberance day ceremonies including primary schools students. He recieved a Diploma of Merit and aLife Membership from the Naval Association of Australia. He served as a Justice of the Peace. Mr Hazel was a Life member of the Barmera Cricket club. the Berri-Barmera Council named him Citizen of the Year 2000. He also recieved an Australian Day Council Achievment Award.
