Biography contributed by David Cree

George was the son of Pritchard and Ada Hall, of Lower Mitcham, South Australia. George was educated at Adelaide High School followed by Adelaide University where he earned his Bachelor of Law degree. He served his articles as a solicitor with the firm of Newman,Gilman, and Sparrow, and later began practice on his own in the city.

George was one of six young men chosen from South Australia for the anti-submarine section in the R.A.N. being attached to the Royal Australian Navy Volunteer Reserve. He was trained at H.M.S. Collingwood from November 1940 to January 1941 and was then posted to H.M.S. Hood. He was a close friend (but not a relation) of David Hall, also lost in the sinking. He was 23 years old at the time of his loss.
