Peter enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on the 8/7/1942 at Melrose; his enlistment number was PA2992. When he was discharged on the 8/3/1946 he was serving on the HMAS Maryborough.

Peter applied for the Soldier Settlement Scheme and was allocated land on Kangaroo Island. In 1952 he and his family moved to the Parndana Settlement and in Dec 1953 their farm at Section 80, Hundred of Newland, the named the property Wirrilda.
