OBITUARY
22186 Maxwell Chinner - (RAN)
Maxwell Chinner died 21 May 1987 after 10 months hospilisation for treatment of Cancer.
Max joined the regular navy in 1938 for a period of 12 years. Firstly he served in the HMAS "Sydney" in the North Atlantic and North Sea on convoy duties.
In 1941 he was transferred to the HMAS Nestor which took part in the sinking of the "Bartomeo Colleoni" and remained aboard until the Nestor was sunk in mid 1942.
He was repatriated back to Australia for treatment until 1943, when he was posted to the Corvette HMAS Shepparton on which he served in the Pacific until mid 1945. Unfortunately because of ill health he was unable to serve his full time of 12 years and was discharged in October, 1945.
On discharge he did an Apprentice course in Cabinet making and French Polishing, a skill in which be became very proficient - perfection was his motto.
His leisure time was spent in playing bowls with the Somerton Bowling Club (S.A),
where he was a member for 24 years.
Max is survived by his very caring wife Gloria and Sons Graham (Army) and Stephen.
