WENT TO AMERICA
Able-Seaman William Ross Birbeck, 22, is the son of Mrs. R. Birbeck, of Victoria street, Prospect. He joined the Navy in April, 1939, and was one of the crew chosen to go to America to join the Perth, which was on its way out to Australia from England. He saw service in the Battle of Matapan, and was with the Perth at the evacuations of Greece and Crete.
