John joined  the RSL on his return from WW11 at the Balaklava Sub Branch.  He severd the executive of the sub branch as prersident 1958 and 1986, Vice President 1984-85, committee 1956,57 and then 1959 to 1964, 1966 to 69, 1974,75,76,788,79,80,82,83, and in the role of sectetary 1949.  john was one of the original member of the RSL Youth Club Gymnasium Committee, he also played an important part in the erection of the youth Club Building - Totaloy.  He was also a driving force in organising RSL major fund raising functions including Balls and Barbeques the results in finances for the Youth Hall and Balaklava Memorial Hospital.  He was a decicated Pensions Officer for the RSL.  He was inducted as a member of Legacy in 1958 and  was appointed a legatee 1966 in this capacity he had helped widows and wards over many years and has the appreciation for his hard work.

Highly successful businessman employing local labour and made his employee available to the Emergency Fire Service duty and other community events. Willingly subscribedt o all town projects.

He was awarded a Life Member of the RSL 1986.
