Complimentary Socials to A.C.1 Don Fuller and P.S.A. Don Amey.
On Saturday evening a social was tendered to P.S.A. Don Amey, R.A.N. who was home for the week end. Mr. S. J. Condon was in the chair; other speakers were Rev. R. C. Guthberlet, for the Methodist Church ; Cr. G. W. Smith for the residents of the district and Mr. W. Wade for the sporting bodies and also as head teacher of the Laura Primary School, all speakers spoke in eulogistic terms of the guest and wished him well. Mr. S. J. Condon made the presentation from the local commit- tee and Cr. G. W. Smith presented a Certificate from the council. Don is the elder son of Cr. and Mrs. C. Amey, of Laura, and received his education at the Laura Primary and the Gladstone High Schools, he had a good scholastic record, being a bursary winner and last year receiving his leaving certificate. His father was a member of the 1st. A.I.F. The guest in responding said he wished to thank the speakers for their good wishes and the residents for being present on his behalf. At the conclusion of the social the Chairman of the District Council presented to the relatives of members of the Forces, Cetificates from the Council.
