George Marshall lost two brothers in 1917, 2246 Sergeant Thomas Marshall, died of wounds, 9 November 1917 and 2182 Lance Corporal William Marshall died of wounds 3 May 1917, both of the 22nd Battalion AIF. Another brother 33456 Gunner Robert Gibson Marshall, 11th Field Artillery Brigade, returned to Australia in 1919.
