SHE IS MAKING a pair for each of the girls, to save their shoes while they are at work, and with chisel, hammer, spokeshave and vice, she can now make one pair each evening in her off-duty hours. Sandal making, however, is by no means her only present achievement in wood work, and her cabi netmaking includes inlaid tables, auto trays, cigarette boxes with mysterious lids, and nests of tea
tables. In her role of messing officer on duty, Flight Officer Sutherland is responsible for feeding hundreds of airwomen and is using her know ledge and experience of domestic science, as she plans the daily menus. Pineapple fritters, she has found, are number one priority in the girls' choice of sweets, and many of her popular recipes are the results of her culinary experiments at the barracks.
