Flying Officer John Warrington Scott DFC (Service No:407135) initially enlisted in the Reserve at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide on 12 July 1941, before enlisting in the RAAF at No 1 Recruiting Centre Melbourne on 6 December 1941 as an Aircraftman II - mustered as Wireless Operator. By October 1942, when he embarked from Sydney for the UK, he was a Flight Sergeant, and was attached to 14 Advanced Flying Unit (AFU) and 467 Squadron in the UK. Granted a Commission on 13 January 1944, Pilot Officer Scott served with 83 Squadron, 27 Operational Training Unit (OTU) and RAF Stoney Cross. Awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross on 19 September 1944, Flying Officer Scott flew numerous succesful bombing missions against the enemy in aircraft including Avro Anson, Douglas DC2, Manchester Lancaster and Wellington. Flying Officer Scott returned to Sydney in January 1945, and was attached to HQ Southern Area at Termination of Appointment on 2 July 1945.

Jack was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1921, eldest of three children of John Warrington Scott Snr (b1880 in Kelso, Roxburgshire, Scotland) and Nellie May Oates (b1896 in Ballarat, Victoria). John immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1901, arriving in Hobart, Tasmania on board the Tongariro. John worked as a Fruit Salesman in Hobart before moving to New South Wales, where he enlisted in the AIF in 1916 (Trooper; Service No:1705). Following his Discharge in Hobart in 1919, John moved with his parents to Adelaide, South Australia where, in 1920 he and Nellie married - Nellie was a Dressmaker in Ballarat. By 1924 John and Nellie had settled in Ballarat, where they raised their family and John was a Mill Worker and Railway Employee.

Jack was working in Prospect, South Australia as a Carpenter when he enlisted in the RAAF. In July 1945 in Sydney, Jack married Betty Lorelei Cooke (b1923 in Sydney, New South Wales) - Betty was a Hairdresser. Jack and Betty lived in Forster and Sydney, where they raised their family and Jack worked as a Builder/Carpenter and Betty as a Hairdresser. Jack died in 1981, and Betty in 2021.
