Pilot-Officer Bryan O'Leary,
Distinguished Flying Cross
It is with pleasure that we record that Pilot Officer Bryan O'Leary (popularly known as "Barney" to hundreds of Rostrevor Old Boys) has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. Bryan received his  early education from the Sisters of Mercy at Mount Barker, where the foundations of a truly Christian upbringing were care fully laid and nurtured. In 1935 he went to Rostrevor College as a boarder  and remained there until 1942. During that time he took an, active part in College life and passed Intermediate and Leaving Certificate Examinations. He represented the College in first grade cricket  and football, and was a College Prefect.
Appended is the citation in which his parents, Mrs., and Mrs. L. O'Leary, of Balhannah, received word, of the award of the coveted D.F.C.:
"Pilot Officer O'Leary has completed numerous operations against the enemy, In the course of which he, has invariably displayed the utmost, fortitude, courage and devotion to duty."
