HIS DUTY FEARLESSLY AND NOBLY DONE. EVER REMEMBERED
Husband of Joyce Eva NORTON
Hartley worked as a driver delivering milk and as a storeman before he enlisted in the Air Force on 23 June, 1941. He trained to fly bombers, completing some of his training at Parafield, ans soon gained his flying hours. Before his embarkation he married Joyce Eva on 14 August 1942. Hartley flew eight operations over Germany before his Lancaster bomber was shot down over Germany on 3 October 1943. Hartley was presumed dead and is commemorated at the Hannover War Cemetery.
Mrs. Hartley Graham Norton, of South road. Black Forest, has been notified that her husband. PO Hartley Graham Norton, is believed to have lost his life in action over Germany on the night of October 3-4. A letter of sympathy from his Wing Commander says that PO Norton carried out many operational sorties against the enemy as captain of a Lancaster. His father and mother live at Lenswood.
