Son of James Alexander McFadyen and Merle Agnes McFadyen. Merle was later known as Merle Kennerick of Bridgewater, South Australia
McFadyen's plane was a Spitfire MK418 in the 126 Squadron. It was lost 15 miles south west of Ostend. The plane was hit by enemy fire near Dunkirk while returning to the squadron's base and crashed while trying to land
