Biography

Flt/Lt Clem W Haydon of Agricultural College, Roseworthy. Aged 28. Son of Mr and Mrs W R Haydon of Roseworthy College. Educated at Gawler High School and Roseworthy Agricultural College. Widely known in athletic circles played football and cricket and was a professional runner. A caprenter in civil life. He enlisted in August 1940 and passed examination with special distinction. Gained an honorable discharge from the Air Force when he obtained his commission and was posted to Seaplane Training Flight, Rathmines. Posted to Port Moresby with No 1 Squadron and made the first raid on Rabaul. Took part in many other raids and had over 1500 hours operational flight. He was reported missing on April 8 1943 while captain of Catalina Flying Boat which is believed to have crashed in the sea while on reconnaissance flight. Special mention of fine work done was in leading Australian papers on April 10 1943.
