3/2/1941      enlisted in RAAF in Adelaide, South Australia

19/9/1941    in a quiet ceremony, in Baptist Church, Ballarat, Victoria
                   Richard married Mary Daenke (fourth daughter of Mr & Mrs FW Daenke, of St Peters, SA)

Dec. 1942     10 (Sunderland) Squadron RAAF based at RAF Station Mount Batten,
                    Plymouth, England operating with  Coastal Command in the Battle of the Atlantic.

5/7/1943       Richard was Captain of a crew of Sunderland aircraft "H" for Harry,
                    No 10 Squadron RAAF, at RAF Station Mount Batten, Plymouth, England
