William Crouchley was born in Bolton UK on 15 February 1908. His father was a cotton mill overlooker. He was one of a large family who emigrated to Western Australia as part of a group settlement scheme in the Margaret River area. He married Christine Winifred Reynolds on 28 January 1933 and earned his living as a school teacher at one teacher schools in WA prior to joining the Airforce. After the war he returned to Western Australia with his family and eventually joined the public service ( Department of Immigration. He died in 2003.
