Flying Officer Ivan Fernley Coward 416415 was injured when RAAF Liberator A72-88 of Number 24 Squadron crashed two miles west of Fenton airstrip, NT as it returned from an attack mission on Japanese shipping.
Flight Lieutenant John Richard Parkinson 411371 and Flying Officer John Macpherson Pitt 401830 were killed
