Ron was the only child of Harold Bickford b1876 in Adelaide, South Australia) and Tessie Veronica Murphy (b1895 in Melbourne, Victoria). Harry (Managing Director of AM Bickford and Sons Ltd) and Tessie married in Melbourne, Victoria in 1916. They Divorced in 1922 and Harry was awarded custody of Ron. Harry remarried and the family settled at Glenelg in South Australia.
Ron was working for the family business as a Salesman in December 1938 when he enlisted in the ACMF (Private; Service No:S306004). He Discharged in 1940 to enlist with the RAAF (Aircraftman, Pilot Officer; Service No:407215). Ron was attached to 4 Embarkation Depot when he was Discharged in March 1943.
In November 1940 Ron married Corale Blanche Smith (b1920 in Williamstown, Victoria) in Melbourne, Victoria.
Ron died in 2011 in Adelaide, SA and Corale in 2015.
