Edward Vernon Arthur HALLAM.
Vern, was born in Berri SA on 4th February 1923, He enlisted with the RAAF in Adelaide on 25th October 1943.
He went through initial Training School at Mt Breckon, Victor Harbour, and the posted to Wireless Airgunners school in 6th January 1944.
To anyone that will listen, Vern will tell you how he had to return to the Riverland to help his Dad get a crop off before returning to the Airforce. He seemed at a loose end at the time because all of his mates had been moved on elsewhere. He was posted to Parafield (SA) and there being an RAF Squadron (238) at the time and as he puts it, "they needed a wireless operator and I was free", he ended up flying transports between Adelaide, Melbourne Sydney.
Vern finished with the RAAF as a Warrent Officer and instructor and then posted to the Air Training Corps (now Australian Air Cadets) and was discharged on 14th June 1946.
Vern returned to the Riverland and took up a block in the Soldier Settlement. He has subsequently retired and lives quietly in Loxton.
