His parents were Heinrich Hugo ZILM and Clara Emma Mary HERDE

He enlisted with the RAAF in Adelaide on 18th July 1942 (7 Aircraft Depot) and was discharged on 1st May 1945

Lyall married Margaret Lorraine RANDALL (date not known)

He died on 13th October, 2008 and is buried in Centennial Park Cemetery in the Lutheran section Path 11, plot 360A
