Turner served overseas in Canada from May to June 1943, he then travelled to England from June 1943 to January 1945. He some completed pilot training but was not considered suitable for flying heavy aircraft. Instead it was recommended that he was remustured to lighter aircraft or as an Air Gunner. He served as an aircraft hand.
