Biography

LAC Sydney M K Smith RAAF aged 19. Son of Mr and Mrs G H  Smith of Gawler. Educated at Gawler Primary and High Schools gaining his Intermediate Certificate. Played cricket and football at school. In civil life worked at Taylor Brothers Butter Factory at Gawler and joined the RAAF in April 1942. Trained at Victor Harbor, Parafield then to NSW returning to Mallala about January 1943 then transferred to Ballarat.

He embarked from Sydney on 13 October 1943 arriving in UK on 21 November 1943 where he remained until returning to Sydney on 23 May 1945. He transferred to Reserves on 3 September 1945 and was discharged from the RAAF on 24 March 1947.
