Donald Henry Martin
The photograph of Donald Martin was in my mother's estate, when she died in January 2015. The photograph is in an RAAF and my mother has written on the back of the photograph ...my cousin Donald Henry Martin 20 years. Killed overseas 1939 war.
The AWM Roll of Honour indicates Donald's service number as 417503, Flight Sergeant 460 Squadron, Royal Australian Airforce. Date of death 10 April 1944. Place of death: Denmark. Cause of death: Flying battle. Cemetery: esbjerg (Fourfold) cemetery, Esbjerg, Denmark.

Donald was the son of Florence Alberta Zeitz and Henry Martin. They lived in the close knit suburb of Alberton in South Australia. A family friend remembers the night when Henry (Donald’s father) received a telegram advising the Donald was missing. It was quite a while before his death was confirmed.
Donald was going out with Thursa Fowler, an Alberton girl (a member of the Alberton Methodist Church). Owen said she visited the cemetery in Denmark and was the only one of the family to do so.
Donald's sister was Valda. A family friend remembers Donald as a pretty rough and tumble kind of boy, up for an adventure. A couple of other members of the Alberton Church were also killed and memorial trees were planted.
