Flight Sergeant Ronald Andre Beal 412883 (Captain - Pilot); Flight Sergeant Frederick Ronald Clayton 414199 (Navigator Bomb Aimer); Flight Sergeant William Frederick Brenton 417453 (Air Bomber) were killed in the loss of Wellington LN380 of 70SQN RAF which crashed 5 miles ENE of Foggia in Southern Italy
The aircraft was detailed to carry out an operational flight from Tortorella Landing Ground but it crashed shortly after take-off and later the bombs exploded. The aircraft was seen to be on fire after making one circuit of the drome and burning parts were seen falling from the fuselage by eye witnesses.
