Colin Ross Gordon grew up in Millicent, South Australia, attending St Peters College in Adelaide. In 1938 he enrolled at St Marks college to study a Bachelor of Law at the University of Adelaide.
Enlisting into the Royal Australian Airforce on the 6th of December 1941, he served as ab air bomber with the No. 100 Squadron (RAF) at Grimsby, Lincolnshire.
On the night of the 31st of August 1943 Gordon's plane, the Lancaster EE181 took off from RAF Grimsby tasked with the bombing of Monchengladbach, Germany. Nothing was heard from the aircraft post-take-off and the plane failed to return to base. The aircraft crashed into the target area, killing five of the crew with two captured as prisoners of war.
Upon recovery, POW Warrant Officer Harris later reported; “I believe the Air Bomber [Gordon] bailed out over the target as the incident occurred. Gordon was alive and not injured in any way. I have no knowledge of what happened after that.”
Colin Ross Gordon is buried at Rheinberg War Cemetary, Germany.
