Eric Alfred BIRRELL was the son of James BIRRELL and Emilie Minner MULLER, born on the 6th March 1923 in Mount Gambier.

James and Emilie were married in November 1912. Eric was the sixth of 9 children born to the couple.

Two of Eric's brothers also enlisted and thankfully returned home.
