Son of Frank Cecil Stirling Eckersley and Fanny Dora Eckersley, of St. Peter's, South Australia.

Prior to enlisting Cecil was a Junior Teacher at Kapunda High School in 1938 and undertook teacher training 1939 - 1940

Cecil listed his interests as Football (Amateur League), Tennis (Adelaide & Eastern Districts), Athletics, Swimming (Royal Life Saving Soc. Awards).

He died as a result of a flying accident in the UK on 30 December 1943, 1 1/2 miles from Port Soderiok on road to Douglas UK

Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Eckersley, of Fourth avenue, St. Peters, have been advised that their only son, Flt-Sgt. Cecil Gordon Eckersley, 24, lost his life as the result of an aircraft  accident in Scotland on December 31. Mt-Sgt. Eckersley was educated at the Adelaide High School and enlisted from the Teachers' Training College in August, 1940. He received  his air training in Southern Rhodesia, and while en route to England was tor pedoed and interned in Vichy territory. He was subsequently released, and reached England in March, 1943. He was engaged to be married to Miss Ila Tattersall of Payneham.
