Sergeant Sutherst 35755 and Flight Sergeant Jenkins 407435 were killed in the loss of 31SQN Beaufighter aircraft A19-61 three miles north of Cootamundra

John Evan Jenkins was born in Terowie, SA on the 28th of April 1914 to Evan and Sarah Jenkins.

 

Enlisting into the RAAF on the 12th of October 1940, Jenkins served as a pilot, and made the rank of Flight Sergeant, serving with the No. 31 Squadron at Wagga Wagga, NSW.

 

On the 21st of September 1942 at 1300 hours, the Beaufighter A19-61 flown by Jenkins and crewmember Sergeant Vivian Sutherst crashed 5km northeast of Cootamundra, neither survived. The cause of the accident is unknown.

 

Jenkins is buried at the Cootamundra General Cemetery, NSW
