Private John Davison/Davidson Wilson (Service No:46) enlisted in the AIF on 17 February 1916 and was attached to 37th Infantry Battalion on 3 June 1916 when the Unit embarked from Melbourne for Plymouth on board HMAT A34 Persic. Private Wilson served in France with 37th and 39th Infantry Battalions and was hospitalised on several occasions suffering from Measles, Influenza, Pneumonia and Pleaurisy. On 1 April 1919 Private Wilson embarked from England for Melbourne on board HT Shropshire and was attached to 39th Infantry Battalion at Discharge on 7 September 1919.

John was born at Cape Bridgewater via Portland, Victoria in 1876, eldest of four children of Robert Wilson (b1845 in County Tyrone, Ireland) and Mary Jane Gilmore (b1846 in County Kesh, Ireland). Robert immigrated with his parents and siblings in 1855, arriving in Portland, Victoria on board the Cairngorm. Mary was a General Servant when she immigrated in 1871, arriving in Hobsons Bay on board the Star of India. Robert (a Farmer) and Mary married in 1874 in Portland, Victoria and settled at Cape Bridgewater where they raised their family and Robert was a Farmer.

John worked at Cape Bridgewater as a Farmer and was in Merino in 1911 when he married Elizabeth (Eliza) McNicol (b1866 in Digby, Victoria). John and Eliza settled in Merino where John was working as a Blacksmith when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, John and Eliza lived in Kyrabrum and Merino - according to the Electoral Rolls John was a War Pensioner/Returned Soldier. John died in 1956 and Eliza in 1962.
