Biography

Mervyn William Thomas ALGATE was born on 13th March, 1924 in Broken Hill, NSW

His parents were Thomas Alfred ALGATE and Rose Annie ROOK - his Father Thomas died in 1931 in an accident and Rose remarried to George Raymond Alexander YOUNG in 1936 in NSW

Mervyn enlisted on 9th May, 1944 with the Royal Australian Air Force - his posting at discharge was a Leading Aircraftman at Headquarters North Eastern Area

He married Gloria Margaret CULPIN in 1950 in NSW - Gloria was previously married to Ronald James WALDRON in 1948

Mervyn died on 12th March, 2003 late of Hackham, South Australia -he was buried in Centennial Park, North West Rose Garden

ALGATE  Mervyn William Thomas,  Velli, Pia & Kent of Azilda announce with sorrow the death of Mervyn in Adelaide on Wednesday March 12th, 2003 at the age of 78 years.  Beloved husband of Gloria. Loving father of Darryl, wife Sally, Gary ,wife Velli,  Cherished" Poppy" of Zoe , Rory, Pia and Kent.  Beloved "Old Pop" of Mercedes.   Mervyn made many friends and acquaintances during his visits to Northern Ontario.  Most memorable was his first sighting of the "Northern Lights". Forever remembered.
