George Wright Andrews, son of Margaret and Alfred John Andrews, and older brother to Jesse Brown and Colin Lawson Andrews, was a servicemen who fought in the 32nd Infantry Battalion in WW1. Born in Crystal Brook, George grew up in Laura, South Australia and soon became a farmer along with his younger brother.

Andrews was measured at 5 ft 5 and a 1/2 (166cm), considered fairly short, as the average height was 5 ft 8 (172cm) and he weighed in at 131lbs (59kg). He maintained a medium complexion, brown eyes and auburn hair.

He was enlisted into the military on the 27th of April 1916 at the age of 37, in Adelaide, South Australia, alongside his brother Colin, who was a part of the 5th Pioneer Battalion, and who was also ranked as a Private. A few months later on August 12, Andrews departed his hometown, on board HMAT A70 Ballarat.

Andrews was recorded sick in hospitals several times, the dates recorded were 10/5/18, 21/6/18, 31/7/18. he was also discharged from the hospital on the 31/7/18. During the battles Andrews fought in, he was wounded in action multiple times, with gunshot wounds to the face and to his right leg, in France on the 30 September 1918.

After Andrews had fought in the Great War at the Western front, he had commenced his return back to Australia on board HT 'Raranga', on the 8th of September 1919. When he arrived in Adelaide, he was finally discharged on the 16th of April 1920.

Andrews had survived WW1 and was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. On the 26th of April 1940, Andrews had passed away only at 60 years old. George Wright Andrews' name is included in the Glenelg and District WW1 & WW2 Honour Board and the Laura Public School Roll of Honour. His grave is located at the AIF Cemetery (Light Oval, 10 Centre North, Grave No. 460), West Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia.
