Leading Aircraftman James Howard Elson (Service No:141357) initially enlisted in the ACMF on 10 March 1942 (giving an incorrect birthdate on his Attestation Papers) and served as a Gunner (Service No:S50784) with 108 Anti Tank Regiment before being Discharged on 2 August 1942 because he was underage. On 5 October 1943 he enlisted in the RAAF (Aircraftman I) and mustered as a Guard. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 28 April 1944, he served in Morotai (3 April 1945 - 31 December 1945) and was attached to No 2 Sqaudron at Discharge on 8 March 1946.

Jim was born in 1925 in Wallaroo, South Australia - third of five children of Clarence George Kennion Elson (b1895 in Port Lincoln, South Australia) and Mary Teresa Day (b1897 in Broken Hill, NSW). Clarence (a Labourer) and Mary married in Adelaide, SA in 1919 and lived in Wallaroo and Adelaide where Clarence was a Labourer.

Jim worked as a Labourer and Maltser's Assistant in Adelaide before his service in WWII. Returning to Adleaide, Jim worked as a Truck Driver, Haulage Contractor, Interstate Haulier and Salesman. Jim died in 1968.
