Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Second of three brothers to serve in the RAAF in WWII, Leading Aircraftman Cecil Eric Dix (Service Nos:S40897/141012) initially served in the ACMF from 19 December 1941 to 9 August 1943, enlisting the next day in the RAAF at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Technical, re mustered as Flight Rigger. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman in August 1944, LAC Dix was attached to 6 Service Flying Training School (SFTS) at Discharge on 6 March 1946.

Cecil (whose nickname was 'The Chief'), was born in Magill, Adelaide, South Australia in 1914, third of five children of Horace Woodrow Dix (b1889 in Finnis, Strathalbyn, South Australia) and Elsie May Elder (b1887 in Adelaide, South Australia). Horace and Elsie married in 1912 and settled in Magill, where they raised their family and Horace was a Bread Carter.

Cecil worked as a Labourer when he left school, and in 1937 was a Shopkeeper (Bicycle Building) in Maylands, Adelaide when he married Joyce Lillian Thomas (b1915 in Adelaide, South Australia). Cecil and Joyce settled in Adelaide, where Cecil worked as Shopkeeper and Secondhand Dealer - in 1943 Cecil discovered the body of his fifteen year old neighbour's son (the lad had hung himself). Cecil was a Motor Driver/Mechanic when he enlisted in the RAAF, and following his Discharge, he and Joyce settled in Adelaide where they raised their family. Cecil died in 1999 and Joyce in 2010.
