"LATE PTE. W. RUSSELL.

Pte. William Russell, of 23rd Battalion, second son of Mr. and. Mrs. R. Russell, of Mead street, Peterhead, was killed in action on October 4. He was educated at Lefevre's Peninsula and Port Adelaide public schools. He enlisted in Victoria in June, 1916, after having been rejected four times on account of scars obtained through a burning accident." - from the Adelaide Register 17 Nov 1917 (nla.gov.au)
