With his three brothers and his father, Leading Aircraftman Robert George Peterson (Service No:122860) served in WWII, enlisting in the RAAF at No 5 Recruting Centre Adelaide on 30 March 1943 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Technical, re mustered as Armourer. In 1944 LAC Peterson served in Darwin NT with 452 Squadron, and in Morotai (17 December 1944 to 13 September 1945. LAC Peterson was attached to 6 Service Flying Training School (SFTS) at Discharge on 12 February 1946.
The youngest of five children, Bob was born in Goodwood, Adelaide, South Australia in 1925 to Harold Christian Peterson (b1893 in Stirling, Adelaide Hills, South Australia) and Catherine (Kate) Rebecca Gardner (b1894 at Wasleys via Gawler, South Australia). Harold and Kate (a Factory Worker) married in 1916 in Hindmarsh, and settled in Adelaide where they raised their family and Harold was a Typewriter and Adding Machine Mechanic.
Bob started work as a Message Boy, and was an Apprentice Jeweller (with FA Pearce, Islington) in 1943 when he enlisted in the RAAF. Following his Discharge, in 1948 in Adelaide he married Brenda Enid Freshney (b1925 in Adelaide, South Australia). Bob and Brenda settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family - Brenda died in 1991 and Bob in 2007.
