Thomas Baird joined the Ardrossan Sub Branch of the RSL in 1946. He was elected to the executive committee over many years these in clude being President in 1950,to 54 and 1970,71,75; Vice President 1948, 1954,58 to 69 and agsin in 1977; and a committeeman 1955,57,59, 1960 to 63, 67 and 1972. Thomas was the Immediate Past President for 1972 and 1976. he also worked on the Management Committee 1946,47,57,63. Assisted in organising the Golf Days for Ardrossan and he attended other Sub Branches Golf Days and their Annual Dinners. Thomas was a delegate in the Group 25 on a number of occassions. A Local Bowls Club active member and organiser of the Sub Brabch bowls Days, and a member of the SA RSL Lawn Bowls Assoication for 5 years as an executive member. A Carnival Director 1967 to 77. Along with other they instigated the Annual Tin Hat Competition in Group 25 Verses the City. He was awarded a Life Membership of the RSL in 1977.
A stronger supporter of Legacy he became a Legatee. He also supported the War Veterans Homes appeals. Thomas was a keen tennis player. A member of the Local Emergency Fire Service. he served as secretary of the Rifle Club. he was on the Back to Ardrossan Committee 1954. Treasurer and committeeman for the Ardrossan Centenary Celebrations 1973-74. Thomas was also a member of the Catholic Church Building Committe 1960-63.
