Leading Aircraftman James Maxwell Hounslow (Service No:116143) enlisted in the RAAF at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide on 25 September 1942 as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Storekeeper, re mustered as Equipment Assistant. ACI Hounslow was attached to 1 Aircraft Depot Laverton, and promoted to Leading Aircraftman on 1 January 1943. LAC Hounslow was attached to Air Force HQ and was posted to 54 Mile and 57 Mile in the Northern Terrirory briefly in 1945. LAC Hounslow was attached to HQ North Western Area at Discharge on 4 April 1946.

Max was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1909, youngest of two children (sons) of John James Hounslow (b1875 in Magill, South Australia) and Edith Emily Jane Sparnon (b1882 in Minlaton, South Australia). John (a Gardener) and Edith married in 1906 in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family and John was a Gardener.

After completing Technical School in Adelaide, Max worked for thirteen years as Cabinetmaker and Carpenter for Pingilly & Co before working for Myer Emporium as a Maintenance Carpenter. In 1941 in Adelaide, Max married Thelma Caroline Seidel (b1914 in Loxton, South Australia) - Thelma was working in Adelaide as a Dressmaker. Following his Discharge, Max and Thelma settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family, before retiring to Goolwa via Adelaide. Max died in 1995 and Thelma in 2015.
