Corporal Stanley Allan Roberts (Service No:39800) enlisted in the RAAF on 22 July 1941 at No 5 Recruting Centre Adelaide as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Trainee Electrician and re mustered as Electrician then Electrical Fitter. Promoted to Leading Aircraftman in 1942, he served with No 3 Squadron in Egypt, Malta, Sicily, Italy and in the UK before returning to Australia in October 1945. Corporal Roberts was attached to 56 Personnel Transit Centre (PTC) at Discharge on 12 February 1946.
Stan was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1920, eldest of two children of Allan Francis Roberts (b1890 in Malalla, South Australia) and Rose Winifred Adelaide Goldfinch (b1894 in Adelaide, South Australia). Allan - a Farm Labourer in 1915 when he enlisted in the AIF (Private; Service No:2774) - was a Gardener in Adelaide in 1919 when he and Rose married. The couple settled in Adelaide, where they raised their family and Allan worked as a Gardener, Motorman and Greengrocer. Allan also served with the ACMF WWII (Corporal; Service No:S212760).
Stan was an Apprentice Electrical Mechanic with Ellis & Clark in Adelaide when he enlisted in the RAAF in 1941. In 1945 in Melbourne, he married Joan Tanner (b1923 in Melbourne, Victoria) - Joan was a Stenographer in Melbourne before enlisting in the WRAAF (Sergeant; Service No:90682). Following Discharge, Stan and Joan settled in Melbourne (Box Hill, Frankston, Mornington) where Stan worked as an Electrical Fitter/Engineer. By the late 1970s they had moved to the Gold Coast in QLD, and from there to Kuranda via Cairns. Joan died in 2004 and Stan in 2013.
