John enlisted in the RAAF in August 1942. he served in several theatres of war in the Pacific. He was seconded to the Merchant Marine. He orginally joined the in Broken Hill he then transfered to Glenelg in 1954. When North Glenelg sub Branch opened he transfered. He joined the staff of the RSL in May 1955 as as Pensions Officer.
