Youngest of six siblings (Adrian, Mercia, Ross, Clive and Joan) who served in WWII, Aircraftwoman Gloria Doreen Roma Ragless (Service No:96695) enlisted in the WAAAF on 22 June 1942 at No 5 Recruitment Centre Adelaide - mustered as Storekeeper, re mustered as Equipment Assistant. Aircraftwoman Ragless was attached to 1 Aircraft Depot Melbourne at Discharge on 28 September 1945.
Gloria was born in Glenelg, South Australia in 1924, youngest of seven children of Henry (George) Thomas (b1888 in Woollahra, New South Wales) and Harriet (Rose) Butler (b1891 in Glenelg, South Australia). In 1907 George was Reported Missing from home, and in 1914 he and Rose married in Glenelg, where they settled and raised their family - six of their seven children served in WWII. George worked as a Labourer, Distiller and Tomato Grower.
Gloria was working as a Clerk in 1942 when she enlisted in the WAAAF, and in 1945 in Adelaide married Ross Haldane Ragless (b1920 in Adelaide, South Australia) - Ross was a Gunner (Service No:SX11199) with 13th Field Regiment. Following Discharge, Gloria and Ross settled in Adelaide, where Ross was a Public Servant. Gloria died in 1975, and Ross, who later remarried, died in 2011.
