Biography contributed by Robert Wight

Prior to enlisting in the AIF, William Charles Dunk also served in the Royal Navy (enlisting 20 September 1904 for 5 years) onboard HMS Katoomba (formerly HMS Pandora, a Pearl-class cruiser launched on 27 August 1889 and originally built for the Royal Navy).

Renamed on 2 April 1890 as HMS Katoomba, the ship was the flagship of the Australian Auxiliary Squadron of the RN Australia Station.
