Biography contributed by Chris Buckley

Aircraftman I Albert Ross Cooper (Service No:81361) enlisted in the RAAF on 8 July 1942 at No 4 Recruiting Centre Perth. He had applied in April, but his call-up was delayed following a written request from his father because 'I particularly require his help to get the seeding done, and as soon as this is completed, I am agreeable to release him of his duties on the farm ...' (A M Cooper Caron 13th April 1942; NAA). ACI Cooper was posted to No 4 School of Technical Training (STT) Adelaide where he contracted Measles, then pneumonia. ACI Cooper died of illness on 3 September 1942.

Fifth of six children, Albert was born in Jamestown, South Australia in 1920 to Albert Matthew Cooper (b1883 in Tarcowie, South Australia) and Katie Susannah Williams (b1887 in Belalie, South Australia). Albert Snr (a Farmer) and Katie married in Norwood, South Australia in 1910 and settled in Jamestown where Albert Snr was a Farmer. The children attended Washpool Primary School, and in the late 1920s the family moved to Caron via Perenjori in Western Australia. Albert Snr was a Farmer, assisted by his two sons until both enlisted in the RAAF, and retired to Perth in the late 1940s.

With his siblings, Albert attended Washpool Primary School in South Australia and Caron Primary School in Western Australia before working as a Farm Hand - and later Sharefarmer - with his father on the family property.
