Biography

Francis J Thomas of 248 Sturt Street, Adelaide. Son of Mr and Mrs W Thomas. Educated at Sturt Street Public School, gaining his QC. Played football for Brunswick Club. In civil life was a monumental mason working for 13 years with AS Tillett. Enlisted aged 32, married with one child to Elsie, only daughter of Mr and Mrs C Young, of Adelaide, parents of Pte Vic Young, who was killed in the Middle East and Sgt H Young, who was accidentally killed in New Guinea.

Joined RAAF in Adelaide, June 1942, number 48803. Trained in Victoria and then left for Townsville and later to Papua on active service. Rank of Corporal.

After WW2 returned to Adelaide, divorced Elsie in 1958 and remarried Minnie Tyson on 16th March 1959. Resided at 22 Florence Street, Goodwood, SA. Died 31st October 1970 at Repatriation Hospital, Daw Park, SA and was buried in Garden of Remembrance, Centennial Park, SA
