Leading Aircraftman Martin Francis Quinn (Service No:48239) enlisted in the RAAF on 28 April 1942 at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide as an Aircraftman I - mustered as Storeman, re mustered as Equipment Assistant. Leading Aircraftman Quinn served in New Guinea (Kiriwina Island) with  12 Repair and Salvage Unit (RSU) from 10 December 1943 to 19 May 1945, and was attached to 6 Service Flying Training School (SFTS) at Discharge on 27 March 1946. Older brother George (Flight Sergeant; Service No: 41699) also served in the RAAF.

Martin was born in Adelaide, South Australia in 1923, fifth of seven children of John Joseph Quinn (b1884 in Burra, South Australia) and Sarah May Newman (b1888 at Acacia Siding via Broken Hill, NSW). John and Sarah married in 1910 in Adelaide, where they settled and raised their family and John was a Labourer and Box Maker.

Martin worked as a Farm Hand on leaving school, and was a Box Repairer (working for his father) in Adelaide in 1942 when he enlisted in the RAAF. Whilst serving in the RAAF, Martin married Olive (Beryl) Beryl Joan Savage (b1924 in Adelaide, South Australia) and, following his Discharge in 1946, Martin and Beryl lived in Adelaide, where they raised their family. Beryl died in 1982 and Martin in 1986.
