Add my storyBiography
Norm enlisted in the RAAF as he wanted to be a fighter pilot, but because he had flat feet he was turned down. Norm was stationed in Melbourne for most of the war as a storesman. He was billeted with a family called "Bailey". He was transferred to Darwin towards the end of the war and was supposed to go to Borneo, but the war ended and he returned home without seeing any fighting action. He returned to Mount Pleasant with his wife Jean (nee Talbot) and worked in the PMG, then as a store manager, and in 1953 he purchased his own store which he and Jean ran until 1966. He then retired and worked in the Post office at Mount Pleasant and then got a position as Manager of the Birdwood High School Canteen where he worked until his sudden death at the age of 60 years and 13 days. The school planted a tree and placed a memorial placque in his honour. He was a keen tennis player in his younger days and a keen golfer up until his death.
