Reginald Harold Medhurst was born on the 22nd of September 1920 in Glencoe, South Australia. His parents were George Edward and Irene Maude Medhurst. He went through Grade 1 Bookkeeping at the Mt Gambier Technical School, for which he received the highest credit marks in examination. He belonged to the Church of England.
In March 1941, Reginald Medhurst sent an application for enlistment as General Clerk in the RAAF, but was turned down due to a lack of vacancies. On the 3rd of April that same year, he sent a letter as a follow-up, stating that he had heard from his local Recruiting Officer that new vacancies had opened up for that role. No doubt his enthusiasm made him first choice for the job, as he was enlisted on the 29th of April. During his time at the RAAF, he had several promotions: from Aircraftman to Leading Aircraftman, then to Corporal, and finally to Sergeant.
He was discharged the year after the war ended, on the 21st of March 1946, and returned to his hometown of Mt Gambier. Later he married a woman named Mary. On the 1st of March 1991, he died aged 70, and was buried in Carinya Gardens Cemetery, Mount Gambier.
