Biography contributed by Faithe Jones

Son of Mr. W.J. DAWSON of Albert Park.  William was married with three children and resided at 9a Arnold Street, Mitcham when he enlisted.  Educated at Peterborough and Mylor he followed sport and was a keen radio amateur and made many sets.  In civil life he was a telegraph operator with the SA Railways for 20 years at various towns, taking part in the opening of the Nantawarra line.  He joined the R.A.A.F. as a fully qualified Wireless Operator and went to Laverton, then to Parkes NSW, and then served nine months on Air Board at H.Q. Melbourne.  He was then transferred to Mallala.  His grandfather served 21 years in the British Navy.
