Mr. L. NEGUS.
The flags at the Town Hall and
the Memorial Hall were flown at
half-mast on Monday out of re
spect to the memory of Mr. Leslie
Negus, a well-known and highly
respected resident of 73 Hannan
St., who died on Sunday morning at
his residence, after an illness, of
some weeks. Deceased was born at
Melbourne 52 years ago, and was
employed in the Commonwealth
Bank. He saw service in the last
war with the 1st Light Horse, and
for some years was secretary of the
Elsternwick branch of R.S.S.I.L.A.
He was a life governor of the Wil
liamstown Hospital, and promi
nently associated in Freemasonry,
beinga past master of the Spots
wood. Lodge. He leaves a widow,
one daughter and three sons to
mourn their loss. The funeral,
largely attended, at which a large
number of beautiful floral tributes
were received, took place on Mon
day afternoon, leaving his residence
for interment in the local cemetery.
The coffin, covered with the Union.
Jack, .was borne to the grave by
returned soldier comrades. Ernest
W. Jackson carried out the funeral
arrangements, and the Rev. J. H.
Raverty held a service in the home
and officiated at the cemetery. Wor.
Bro. J. H. Whitwam held the
Masonic service and J. Bruce Smith
conducted the Returned Soldiers'
service.
