Leading Aircraftman Jack Hannibal Hocking (Service No:26553) enlisted in the RAAF on 21 May 1940 as an Aircraftman I (mustered as Messman) at No 5 Recruiting Centre Adelaide and through 1940 was attached to 1 Recruit Depot (RD) Laverton and 2 Initial Training School (ITS) Bradfield Park. Promoted on 1 January 1941 (remustered as Dental Orderly) , LAC Hocking was attached to RAAF Hosptial Richmond and 3 School of Technical Training (STT) Sydney that year. In 1942 LAC Hocking (remustered as Dental Mechanic) was at 2 School of Technical Training (STT) Canberra, and HQs Bradfield Park, Canberra and Laverton. From 1943 to Discharge, LAC Hocking served at HQ Bradfield Park, 1 Air Observers School (AOS) Cootamundra, 3 STT Sydney and RAAF Station Richmond. LAC Hocking was attached to 2 Personnel Depot (PD) at Discharge on 4 December 1945.

Jack was born at Peterhead, South Australia in 1913, youngest of five children of Hannibal Hocking (b1880 at Port Adelaide, South Australia) and Mary Ann Jamieson (b1883 in Glanville, South Australia). Hannibal and Mary married in Semaphore in 1903 and settled in Port Adelaide where Hannibal was an Engine Driver and Mary a Grocer.

Jack worked in his mother's grocery store and as a Labourer before enlisting in the RAAF. In 1948 in Port Pirie he married Flora (aka Jean) Jean Atwell (b1918 at Port Pirie, South Australia). Jack died in 1995.
